small town talk - words by Dean Bycroft illustrated by Evan Heasman
They walk after nightfall to evade the teasers, but this only fuels the
rumors. Moose hears the taunts. It upsets him, but he ignores them.
Life is easier this way. Rooster wishes he was as big as Moose so he
could teach them swine a lesson. And despite their fewer number, the
night-time bullies' piercing words burn the most, like poisoned blades
with fatal consequences.
